The Rising Star: Luka Doncic

We had the opportunity to interview Luka Doncic, our Rookie of the Year. 

Despite being only 19 years of age, Doncicalready boasts an impressive record in the basketball field. Originated from Slovenia and now representing Dallas Mavericks, a known team among the National Basketball Association (NBA). “I’m not afraid of pressure, I’m used to it”, stated by Doncic. Doncic has always loved basketball since a child, “I always loved basketball. I always played basketball when I was young. So, I always wanted to play basketball”. Being Raised by an athletic parent, Doncic was heavily inspired by his father’s journey as a former experienced basketball player in the Slovenian and European league, the 19-year-old took over the title as one of EuroLeague’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Not to mention, he is also the face of the NBA 2k19 on its 20th century.

With basketball as his passion since a young age, Doncic started his profession at the age of 12 representing Olimpija Under-14 Vasas Intesa Sanpaolo Cup, finished with an average 13 points per game to win the MVP honors in Budapest during the year 2011. In no time, he was signed by Real Madrid for a 5 years contract. Due to his remarkable talent and skills, he has led Real Madrid to the Euro League Championship and was named the Final Four MVP, becoming one of the youngest winner. 

During the LA Lakers and DallasMavericks’ match on 31st October 2018, Doncic was excited to have the golden opportunity to share the court with one his ideal greatest player of all time, LeBron James. As not many players would get a chance to play with their highly respected idol. “I mean, it was amazing. It was something special for me, for sure. I looked up to him (James) as my idol”, quoted Doncic.

As a rising star in his basketball career and being almost on-par with Michael Jordan’s scores, Doncic did an excellent job on acquiring an average 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per match in his career to date. Despite his outstanding performances, Doncic is still humble as ever – “I don’t think anyone can compare me with him (James), because he had an amazing career”.

Doncic has already shined on some of the greatest stages in professional basketball league on numerous occasions over, and one of his goals is to be a full-fledged NBA Champion. If there is one thing we can learn from Luka Doncic, is that in life, we face pressures head on. Chase your dreams, work hard and stay humble, as life will take care of the rest.
