Coronavirus: Know The Facts

After temporarily suspending the 2019-20 season in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA and NBPA have finalized a comprehensive plan for a July 30 restart, which includes stringent health and safety protocols. The rigorous program, which addresses risks related to COVID-19 and focuses on the well-being of students, teachers, officials and staff, was developed in consultation with public health experts, infectious disease specialists and government officials.

Through NBA Together, we will continue to work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), infectious disease and public health experts to ensure that we are doing our part to support the response to this continuously evolving situation.

What is the current situation worldwide?

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11. The update to “pandemic” reflects the severity, impact, and rate of spread of the disease, with observed spread across the globe.

  • The health and safety of the NBA students, teachers, staff and fans is paramount.
  • The NBA suspended the 2019-20 season on March 11.
